Comfort food for this burger-phile, Five Guys Burgers & Fries is my favorite "fast food style" burger. Leaps and bounds above traditional drive-through fast food like McDonalds and Wendys, and way better than any of the other less expensive / non-fancy burger chains around town like Elevation Burger, Jerry Built, and Smash Burger (FG even bests In-N-Out Burger for those of you on the West Coast).
Here are three things I really dig about Five Guys:
1) The burger. Duh. It's meaty, with two patties on their standard size offering. And all of the toppings are free - any way you like it. Extra sautéed onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, mayo, ketchup, and two slices of cheese. To steal a phrase from another fast food chain, "Just like I like it."
2) The fries. It's like they fill the bag with fries and then nestle the burger on top. It's excessive, and that's all right by me. Three of us split a large fry and didn't even finish them.
3) Peanuts. Hey, who doesn't like crackin' a few peanuts while the burgers are cookin'?
The burger was just plain good, with that aforementioned meaty taste. The veggies tasted fresh and crispy. I ordered extra cheese and liked how it melted into the patty as I worked my way through. The fries are fresh-cut and some of them still show a little skin on the side - my friend Scott wanted all of those for himself!
Sometimes you don't want fancy-shmancy, you just want good. It's Comfort Food, and Five Guys Burgers & Fries really hit the spot today!
Cheers to Eating More Burgers!
