The flavorful hamburger makes for a satisfying meal. With the first bite, I can usually tell if the burger is going to measure up. A recent visit to The Republic Smokehouse & Saloon in Houston's popular Midtown proved my theory, as this burger adventure was enjoyable from start to finish.
The setting is homey, the service is friendly and the food is comfort. With it's rustic interior, complete with sofas in front of a fireplace, Republic Smokehouse & Saloon was the perfect spot to come in and warm up from a cold Houston afternoon. Popcorn to snack on was instantly brought to our table. Our server offered up specialty cocktail suggestions, and answered our many questions about their menu. However, I came to try their burger, and so I ordered mine right away.
The Republic Burger is 8 oz brisket topped with, house smoked bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickle on a sweet sourdough bun. The mouth-watering blend of flavors satisfied my sweet to spicy taste buds range. The patty shined with a perfectly pink center and savory smokiness. The evenly melted cheddar cheese was a nice tart companion to the ultimate topping of a (over-medium) fried egg. House-made dill pickles, fresh red onion and field greens added a hint of healthy, and the side of golden hand-cut fries completed the picture. Bite after bite, this hamburger proved itself as one of my new Houston favorites. Other tasty menu items that I enjoyed on this visit included rich and filling Brisket Nachos, zesty St. Louis Pork Ribs and zesty Aged Cheddar Grits. Had I had more space in my stomach, I would have closed my meal with their rich and gooey Bread Pudding. However, I decided to save that for my next visit, which I know will be soon.
Cheers to Eating More Burgers!
