Houston is in the midst of a long hot summer, and with roadtrips across Texas trying out other area burgers, it was nice to come home to a new local one. A southern inspired diner that features made from scratch Texas food, the casually cool State Fare has recognized the growing popularity of including a nice selection of Hamburger options on their menu that includes full-course meals. Their burgers are anything but ordinary.
State Fare offers four Texas-sized burgers stacked high with unique toppings such as chili, queso, and chicken-fried french fries. On my visit, I enjoyed their classic State Fare Cheeseburger with all the trimmings. Cooked to a perfect medium, and delightfully presented on a stainless tray reminiscent of lunches in my grade school cafeteria, this burger was enjoyable from start to finish. The juicy patty with melted cheddar cheese was adorned with a generous amount of shredded iceberg lettuce (my favorite), beefsteak tomato, onion, house-made bread & butter pickles and "Lee's Sauce" (spicy 1000 Island dressing) crowned with a fluffy grilled bakery bun. Contrasts of sweet and spice greeted me at every turn, and I relished every last morsel until there was no more burger. The thin hand-cut fries sprinkled with sea salt were the perfect companion to the burger. Add in craft cocktails, creative appetizers such as homemade potato chips with dill dipping sauce, and a generous slice of Nutella Banana cake, and the result is the perfect comfort food equation. The service is friendly and (mostly) attentive. I look forward to trying their other burger offerings soon, and recommend you do the same.
Cheers to Eating More Burgers!
