With so many new restaurants and bars finding their way to the Houston Heights, it is easy to find a good place for a burger. However, to find such a place that is lively, a bit funky, has a cool vibe, AND serves an exceptional burger might be more difficult to land on. Recently, I found such a spot, and I'm very glad that I did.
Presidio Bar & Grill on 11th Street had been on my radar, and I took a chance during their first week in business to try them out. Walking through the large wooden doors, I was greeted with a sleek interior of steel and wood decor with stained concrete floors. Banks of tables lined the middle of the dining room, with smaller tables flanking the front windows and a bar as the centerpiece along the west wall. Two patios adorn both the east and west sides of the building, one for outdoor dining, and one more for events, like the one being held on our visit.
After a short wait, we sat down, ordered craft cocktails and appetizers, and then I placed my order for their 44 Farms Burger. This, like all of their dishes, are sourced using local/Texas suppliers. As the burger came out in a paper draped basket, the white cheddar cheese was enveloping the perfectly charred-crusted 44 Farms patty, complimented by onion bacon jam, lettuce, tomato, onion and house-made pickles. This myriad of flavors worked so well, that my dining companion declared this the best burger she had ever eaten. I have to agree with her assessment, and the hand-cut sea salt coated fries only added to our praise.
One sad note was that the chef's Father had recently passed away. There was a memorial for him taking place out on the larger patio during our visit, complete with a jazz band playing at this "celebration of life", The attendees proceeded to march through the dining room playing NOLA-style jazz on their musical instruments their so everyone could be a part of the event. This made our entire dining experience one of pure joy, pleasure, and culinary delight. No doubt, I will be back very soon.
Cheers to Eating More Burgers!
