The Houston Heights has gained many new burgers spots recently, with Balls Out Burger as one of the new additions. There premise is a simple one - serving up cooked-to-order single and double hamburgers using local sources in a casual setting focusing on a vast outdoor seating and entertainment area. I, for one, could not wait to experience my first Balls Out.
It took a little longer that expected to have my burger brought out after I placed my order at the counter; however, it was a beautiful sunny day, so I enjoyed the opportunity to spend some time outdoors with a burger buddy and meaningful conversation. When my cheeseburger and fries were brought out, the presentation was underwhelming. But, that does not always lend to a bad burger experience.
The glistening bun was nicely grilled on both sides. Yet that was overshadowed by the wilted leafy lettuce flanking the bun. As I took the first bite, I experience a bland over-cooked tasting burger with little noticeable seasoning. The texture was dry with no juices flowing, but the slice of cheese did help some. The thin cut fries were evenly sprinkled with pepper, with an average taste and texture. Overall, I was extremely disappointed in Balls Out Burger. I realize they had only been open a couple of weeks when I made my visit, so I will do a follow-up visit soon, where I hope to have a better burger adventure.
Cheers to Eating More Burgers!
