More impressive than a delicious burger is when a great cause becomes mixed in with the ingredients. That is exactly what occurred at Jerry Built Homegrown Burgers in West University. Partnering with local news celebrity Katherine Whaley, Jerry Built now offers her own creation on their menu, The Kat Mac & Cheese Burger. Aimed at anyone who has ever loved Mac & Cheese as a kid, Katherine's burger invention shines. This homegrown burger, made of 100% all-natural beef, is topped with mac & cheese, housemade onion rings, American cheese, and their special Ernie's sauce, served on a fresh baked on-premises white or wheat bun. (I chose the white option)
The first bite introduced me to Jerry's signature charcoal flavored and juicy patty, nicely charred and crusty on the outside, with a perfect pink center. The additional flavors of Kat's creation completely complemented the flavor of the meat without compromising the taste. The mac and cheese was gooey and oh-so rich! Each of her specially selected ingredients made this quite an enjoyable burger experience.
There was no better way to introduce this burger than to surround the evening with kids. Proceeds from each Kat's Mac & Cheese Burger sold went to the local charity, Kids' Meals. This organization serves healthy lunches to over 1,700 hungry pre-school aged children, living in poverty. Kids' Meals provides and delivers nutritious meals, free of cost to the families, Monday through Friday, year-round. Their Executive Director was present at this burger feast, along with her own children.
Talking with Katherine Whaley, I learned that she possesses a love of cooking, and has her own recipes blog. As she was flipping burgers in Jerry's kitchen, and serving her creation to the customers, Katherine looked right at home. I proudly crown Katherine Whaley "The Burger Queen". Thanks to her, Jerry Built and Kids' Meals for this tasty burger adventure.
Cheers to Eating More Burgers!
